AMD Radeon Software is a device commuter and utility software parcel for Advanced Micro Devices'due south graphics cards and APUs. Its graphical user interface is congenital with Electron and is compatible with 64-bit Windows and Linux distributions.

Software bundle [edit]

Functionality [edit]

Radeon Software includes the following feature ready:

  • Game contour management
  • Overclocking and undervolting
  • Performance monitoring
  • Recording and streaming
  • Captured video and screenshot management
  • Software update notifications
  • Upgrade counselor

History [edit]

The software was previously known as AMD Radeon Settings, AMD Catalyst, and ATI Catalyst. AMD ceased providing 32-fleck versions in Oct 2018.

Supported hardware [edit]

AMD Radeon Software is targeted to support all function blocks present on a GPU's or an APU's die. Besides pedagogy code targeted at rendering, this includes display controllers likewise as their SIP blocks for video decoding (Unified Video Decoder (UVD)) and video encoding (Video Coding Engine (VCE)).

The device driver also supports AMD TrueAudio, a SIP cake to perform sound-related calculations.

Supported products [edit]

AMD Radeon Software supports the post-obit AMD (and ATI-tradition) product lines targeted at rendering:

  • Graphics processing units (GPUs)
  • Accelerated processing units (APUs)

The following product lines are probably[ original research? ] non supported past the AMD Radeon Software, simply instead by some other software, which (for instance) is OpenGL-certified:

  • AMD FireStream production line for GPGPU in supercomputers and such
  • AMD FireMV product line for multi-monitor setups (deprecated by AMD Eyefinity existence bachelor on all consumer productsouthward)[ citation needed ]
  • AMD FirePro product line for professionals who require certified OpenGL back up

Multi-monitor support [edit]

Starting in Catalyst xiv.half-dozen AMD has enabled mixed-resolution back up, allowing for a single Eyefinity display group to exist created where each monitor runs at a unlike resolution. The electric current version may, however, disable whatsoever boosted display mode and change to a resolution in the ane mode available. This feature is made possible through the addition of ii new Eyefinity display modes, Fit and Expand, which bring together the traditional Make full fashion. In both Fit and Expand modes, AMD is compensating for the mismatched resolutions by creating a virtual desktop that is of a different resolution from those of the monitors, so either padding information technology out or cropping it every bit necessary.[1]

Before Eyefinity, there was the Windows-just software "HydraVision"[two] (originally acquired from Appian Graphics complete with its development team), a desktop/screen management software mostly providing multi-monitor and virtual-screen direction. It has all-encompassing hot-cardinal back up.[3]

Video dispatch [edit]

Both of AMD's SIP cores for video acceleration, Video Coding Engine as well equally Unified Video Decoder, are supported past AMD Radeon Software.

Audio acceleration [edit]

Some AMD products comprise SIP cores for audio acceleration branded AMD TrueAudio. Back up for this audio dispatch DSP co-processor is part of AMD Radeon Software.

Under Microsoft Windows the support for AMD TrueAudio is codenamed "ACP" (for sound co-processor) and implemented via "ACP user service" (amdacpusrsvc.exe), a background service that helps manage audio tasks in games.

Under Linux, AMD TrueAudio is codenamed "acp" likewise: some code regarding this tin exist found in the /drivers/gpu/drm/radeon directory of the Linux kernel sources.

Power saving [edit]

AMD Radeon Software includes support for AMD PowerPlay, AMD PowerTune and AMD ZeroCore Power, AMD's fix of technologies to reduce energy consumption in their graphics products.[4]

Supported interfaces [edit]

Rendering [edit]

The AMD Radeon Software device driver supports multiple rendering interfaces, all designed to give the user-space programs, such as video games or CAD software, admission to the corresponding SIP blocks.

Direct3D [edit]

Direct3D 12 is available for GCN with version 15.7.i or college.[5]

Mantle [edit]

So far, only the Radeon Software targeting Microsoft Windows includes support for Mantle.

OpenGL [edit]

OpenGL 4.five is possible for TeraScale 2 and iii with AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition Beta (driver version xv.xxx or college similar Carmine Beta 16.2.1).[6] OpenCL back up will be lost, just it tin be recovered by copying the relevant files from a previous bundle like Radeon Software 15.eleven.1 Beta. Beta drivers do non support HDCP.

OpenGL 4.v is bachelor for GCN with version 16.3 or higher[seven]

OpenGL 4.x compliance requires supporting FP64 shaders. These are implemented past emulation on some TeraScale GPUs.

OpenGL iv.6 is supported in AMD Adrenalin 18.iv.1 Graphics Driver on Windows 7 SP1, x version 1803 (April 2018 update) for AMD Radeon Hard disk 7700+, HD 8500+ and newer. Released Apr 2018.[8] [9]

Vulkan [edit]

Vulkan 1.0 with 16.iii.2 or higher for GCN

Vulkan 1.1 with AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.3.3 or higher[10]

Video acceleration [edit]

The AMD Radeon Software device driver supports multiple interfaces, all designed to give user-space programs, such as GStreamer or HandBrake software, access to the corresponding SIP blocks.

GPGPU [edit]

ROCm [edit]

OpenCL [edit]

With Catalyst 9.12 support of OpenCL 1.0 was bachelor.[xi]

In Goad 10.10 OpenCL i.i was bachelor.[12]

Catalyst 12.4 Supports OpenCL one.2.[13]

OpenCL 2.0 driver works since fourteen.41 for GCN-based Models.[14] This also supports previous OpenCL versions.

TeraScale 2 and 3 chips can use Level 1.2.

Close to Metal [edit]

Close to Metal was a low-level API by AMD which was abased in favor of OpenCL.

Other [edit]

AMD HD3D stereoscopic 3D API by AMD.

Heterogeneous Arrangement Architecture [edit]

With Catalyst xiv.1 HSA is possible.[fifteen] AMD principal Processor graphic Units and Radeon graphic Carte Units piece of work combined.

Operating systems support [edit]

Linux [edit]

The principal AMD GPU software stacks are fully supported on Linux: GPUOpen for graphics, and ROCm for compute. GPUOpen is most often simply a supplement, for software utilities, to the free Mesa software stack that is widely distributed and available by default on most Linux distributions.

AMD strives at packaging its software for Linux on its own, not relying solely on Linux distributions. They do and then by using the amdgpu and amdgpu-pro shell scripts, and provide package archives for e.g. apt and rpm.[xvi]

Microsoft Windows and Linux [edit]

Starting with version 4.ix (released on four September 2004) the Catalyst driver packet included the ATI Catalyst Control Heart,[27] a new software awarding for manipulating many hardware functions, such equally 3D settings, monitor controls and video options. It shows a small 3D preview and allows the user to meet how changes to the graphics settings affect the quality of the rendered epitome. It also shows data about the menu itself and the software information. This application requires Microsoft .Cyberspace Framework.

Radeon Software 16.ten and higher but for GCN-based Models. With 16.3.two Vulkan i.0 support.

Radeon Software 17.7.1 is the terminal commuter for Windows eight.1

Radeon Software eighteen.9.iii is the final driver for 32-flake Windows seven/ten

Radeon Software 21.5.2 is the final driver for Windows 7 (and Windows 8.i unofficially); 21.5.two is also the concluding driver for GCN one, GCN two and GCN 3 based GPUs[22]
